Dog House Rankings: No. 4 Centerville Big Reds

The Centerville Big Reds enter Week 2 at 0-1 after losing an absolute barn burner against a very solid Creston squad.

Do not let the record fool you. Centerville demonstrated that it has the toughness, talent and offensive firepower to compete against quality football teams.

At the center of that offense is quarterback Mack Murdock—and the young man is a gunslinger.

Murdock completed 36 of 56 passes for 490 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with a 64.3% completion rate and a 157.8 quarterback rating. He threw just one interception while averaging 13.6 yards per completion. Murdock also added 22 rushing yards and one touchdown on nine carries.

That gave the junior quarterback 512 yards of total offense and five total touchdowns in the season opener.

This week, Centerville travels to Knoxville for another important non-district matchup. Last season, the Big Reds defeated the Blue Bullets 56-21, but Coach Matt Kovacevich and his staff will understand that last year’s result guarantees nothing this time around.

Knoxville will remember that loss and will be ready to defend its home field. Centerville must put the Creston game behind it, protect the football and find greater offensive balance while continuing to unleash Murdock and its talented group of playmakers.

The Big Reds may be 0-1, but they remain firmly at No. 4 in the Dog House Rankings. This is an exciting and dangerous football team—and with a gunslinger leading the offense, Centerville will never be out of a game.
