EARLY MORNING MASSACRE: BROWN COUNTY STEAMROLLS ROUTT CATHOLIC 67–0

The Brown County Hornets did not serve breakfast Saturday morning.

They served notice.

Coach Tom Little’s top-ranked Hornets completely overwhelmed Routt Catholic, building a 41–0 halftime lead before completing a dominant 67–0 victory.

Three games. Three shutouts. A combined scoring margin of 175–0.

This is not simply a talented football team. This is a disciplined, physical and experienced program playing with championship expectations.

Kassing Continues to Command the Offense

Junior quarterback Michael Kassing once again operated Brown County’s offense with confidence and efficiency.

Kassing delivered one of the game’s biggest offensive highlights during the second quarter, threading a 30-yard touchdown pass to Conner Flynn. Flynn fought through defensive pass interference, secured the football and finished the scoring play.

Brown County’s play-action game becomes extremely difficult to defend because of the pressure created by its powerful rushing attack. When opponents bring additional defenders toward the line of scrimmage, Kassing possesses the poise and arm talent to make them pay through the air.

His contributions did not end at quarterback. Kassing also made an impact in the secondary, tracking receivers and recording a pass breakup as the Hornets preserved another shutout.

Hornets Control the Ground

Brown County once again displayed tremendous depth in its backfield.

Taygen Hohenbery added a two-yard touchdown run during the first-half onslaught, and the Hornets continued rotating fresh runners behind an offensive line that controlled the point of attack.

Several explosive Brown County plays were erased by penalties. However, even those moments demonstrated the Hornets’ superior speed and ability to create space.

The offensive line established control early. The running backs attacked the open lanes, and Kassing punished Routt whenever the Rockets committed too many defenders to stopping the run.

Brown County scored 41 points before halftime and never allowed Routt an opportunity to settle into the game.

Five Takeaways and Another Shutout

As impressive as scoring 67 points may be, the biggest story surrounding Brown County remains its defense.

The Hornets forced five turnovers and recorded their third consecutive shutout.

At 6-foot and 165 pounds, Law may not possess the traditional size of a defensive lineman, but his quick feet, relentless pursuit and nonstop motor make him extremely difficult to block. (www.maxpreps.com)

Beau Little and Clint Stephens controlled the interior running lanes and consistently converged on Routt’s ball-carriers near the line of scrimmage. Kolden Sorrells added pressure along the defensive front, helping the Hornets eliminate any chance of the Rockets establishing an offensive rhythm.

Brown County played fast, physical and disciplined football at every level of the defense.

Three opponents have lined up against the Hornets this season.

Not one has scored.

Dog House Player of the Game: Hunter Law

The Dog House Player of the Game goes to Brown County senior defensive end Hunter Law.

Law’s two fumble recoveries helped headline a defensive performance that produced five takeaways and another shutout. He consistently pursued the football, created disruption and demonstrated why effort and technique can be every bit as valuable as size.

Law recorded 73 tackles and four sacks during his junior campaign while earning first-team All-Conference and Herald-Whig All-Area defensive line recognition.

His performance against Routt Catholic was another example of the relentless style that has made him one of the leaders of Brown County’s dominant defense.

Someone over in Brown County needs to send the Dog House a picture of this young man.

He has earned his recognition.

The Dog House View

Coach Tom Little has something special brewing in Mount Sterling.

The Hornets can attack through the air, lean on a deep collection of running backs and overwhelm opponents with one of the most aggressive defenses in the region.

Brown County entered the weekend as the No. 1 team in the Dog House rankings, and nothing about Saturday morning’s performance suggested that ranking should change.

The Hornets are not merely defeating teams.

They are stinging them early, taking away their confidence and finishing the job.

Brown County moves to 3–0 following another statement victory. The scoreboard read Brown County 67, Routt Catholic 0, but the message was even louder:

The road through the Dog House still runs through Mount Sterling.

## Charles “Chuck” Banks ### Founder and Voice of Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network Charles “Chuck” Banks—known to many throughout the tri-state sports community as Coach Banks or “Chuck the Tank”—is the founder and lead broadcaster of the Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network. Built from more than two decades of coaching, teaching, leadership, and relationship-building, the network is dedicated to telling the stories of the coaches, athletes, schools, and communities that make local sports special. A native of rural Iowa, Banks has spent 20 years in education and more than 25 years coaching football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education from Graceland University in 2004 before completing a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Educational Administration and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Throughout his coaching career, Banks worked with programs across southeastern Iowa. His stops included Centerville, Central Lee, and Fort Madison, along with seven years coaching girls basketball and additional experience in junior-high track. At Central Lee, Banks served as an assistant defensive coach and activities director before becoming the Hawks’ head football coach from 2020 through 2022. Central Lee reached the playoffs during his final season. He was also part of multiple playoff teams and a district championship during his time with the program. At Centerville, Banks spent nine years as an assistant and helped the Big Reds capture a district championship and earn multiple playoff appearances. Most recently, he coached at Fort Madison under Head Coach Derek Doherty, helping develop younger players within the Bloodhound football program. Banks’ defensive coaching journey evolved from the traditional 5-2 defense to the 3-3-5 before he found his preferred home in the 4-2-5. However, his coaching philosophy has never been limited to schemes, formations, wins, or losses. He believes the greatest responsibility of a coach is to build relationships, develop leaders, create belonging, and prepare young people for life beyond the playing field. That belief became the foundation for Coaching Culture in Athletics. What began as an effort to create meaningful conversations about coaching and leadership grew into a full sports-media and broadcasting network. Coaching Culture in Athletics now serves as the umbrella for Dog Pound Radio, The Coach Show, the Dog House Tour, Dog Pound U, Hound Talk, the Dog House Saturday Morning Blitz, live game broadcasts, team previews, rankings, interviews, historical features, and year-round coverage of local athletics. Through the Dog House Tour, Banks visits practices, meets coaching staffs, interviews athletes, studies programs, and gives local teams the type of detailed coverage normally reserved for much larger schools. The network’s reach extends throughout southeastern Iowa, western Illinois, and northeastern Missouri, connecting communities across the tri-state region. Banks has covered and developed relationships with programs including Fort Madison, Central Lee, Centerville, West Burlington–Notre Dame, Mount Pleasant, Macomb, West Hancock, and Brown County.
