Coy Dorothy Is Building Something Special

Before the West Hancock Titans ever took the field, Coach Coy Dorothy helped create one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Coach Dorothy came up with the idea of having every player carry an American flag onto the field in remembrance of September 11. Logan Baker led the Titans while carrying the team flag. It was a powerful tribute and a reminder that high school football is about far more than what happens between the lines.

Then it was time to play football—and the Titans delivered.

Great Preparation, Great Mindset

West Hancock entered the game prepared, confident and ready to pound the rock. The Titans’ confidence continues to rise, and it is easy to understand why.

Their coaches demand a lot from them, but these players want that kind of coaching. They want to be challenged, held accountable and pushed to improve.

That mindset showed throughout the night.

West Hancock’s fullback is an absolute unit. If you plan on tackling him, you had better play low and bring everything you have. This offense wants to be physical, control the line of scrimmage and make its opponent feel every carry.

But the biggest story of the night belonged to Hunter Froman.

Hunter Froman Takes Over

Coach Dorothy described Froman’s performance as “the best half of football I have seen from anybody.”

Froman earned that praise.

With West Hancock backed up deep near its own goal line, the quarterback put the ball in the air. Froman went over the defender, mossed him, secured the catch and took it all the way to the crib for a reported 99-yard touchdown.

Then he made another game-changing play on Bureau Valley’s next possession.

Froman jumped the route, intercepted the pass and returned it for a pick-six just before halftime. In consecutive possessions, he scored on offense and defense and completely took over the game.

The final statistics have not been confirmed, but Froman is believed to have finished with approximately 140 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns and a pick-six.

There could also be some West Hancock history attached to his performance. The reported receiving record is 172 yards, a mark associated with associated with Froman and Nolan Gooding. It also appears possible that Froman broke a school season record. We will wait for the official numbers before making that declaration, but there is no question that we witnessed an extraordinary performance.

The Big Men Set the Tone

The athletes touching the football made the highlights, but West Hancock’s success began up front.

Our Dog House Lineman of the Week is Logan Baker.

The Titans ran behind Baker for much of the night. He handled his responsibility at the line of scrimmage and consistently worked to the second level to get a body on a linebacker. That is the kind of work that creates running lanes and keeps a physical offense moving.

Landon Marshall also deserves recognition. He made a mistake on the opening play, but what happened afterward revealed his character. Marshall settled down, adjusted and began playing at varsity speed.

Young players will make mistakes. What matters is how they respond, and Marshall responded like a varsity football player.

Center Carson Turner played an excellent game as well. He took care of the nose guard, helped control the middle of the line and provided the stability the Titans needed to operate their offense.

West Hancock wants to pound the rock, and these linemen are embracing the responsibility that comes with that identity.

College Coaches: Go Get Chandler Dadant

Are the college offers beginning to arrive for Chandler Dadant? If they are not, they should be.

Dadant is one of the hidden gems of the Dog House Tour. He is a physical and dependable football player, but what separates him is his preparation. Every week, he studies as much film as a coach. He wants to understand the opponent, recognize tendencies and know what is coming before the football is snapped.

Then, when West Hancock needed someone to finish the game, Dadant delivered.

Late in the contest, he fought for the tough yards that helped the Titans seal the 38–28 victory. There was no need for flash—just physical football, determination and the willingness to carry the responsibility when everything was on the line.

Those qualities are not always completely reflected in a box score, but they show up when games must be won.

College coaches looking for a tough, intelligent, prepared and coachable football player need to put Chandler Dadant on their recruiting boards.

College coaches—go get him!

A Community Behind Its Titans

The atmosphere at West Hancock was special.

The home stands were packed. The student section brought tremendous energy, and little kids waited in the end zone to give the players high-fives. Even 15 to 20 minutes after the final whistle, the stands were still full.

The players looked around and could only say, “Wow.”

That support matters. It gives young athletes confidence, helps them keep their heads held high and reminds them that they are playing for something bigger than themselves. They are representing their families, their school and an entire community that believes in them.

Hamilton Athletic Director Brad Gooding has also given Coach Dorothy the support every head coach needs:

“You go coach football, and I’ll handle the rest.”

That trust allows Dorothy and his staff to concentrate on developing their players and building the program the right way.

Conference Play Is Next

West Hancock now carries a 2–2 record into conference competition after facing opponents from three different divisions. The Titans begin conference play this week on the road at Illini West.

The record tells only part of the story. The confidence is rising. The players are responding to demanding coaching. The offensive line is becoming more physical. Hidden gems are emerging. The community is filling the stands and staying long after the game ends.

Coach Coy Dorothy is building something special at West Hancock.

The players believe it.

The coaches believe it.

Now the entire community is beginning to feel it.

## Charles “Chuck” Banks ### Founder and Voice of Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network Charles “Chuck” Banks—known to many throughout the tri-state sports community as Coach Banks or “Chuck the Tank”—is the founder and lead broadcaster of the Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network. Built from more than two decades of coaching, teaching, leadership, and relationship-building, the network is dedicated to telling the stories of the coaches, athletes, schools, and communities that make local sports special. A native of rural Iowa, Banks has spent 20 years in education and more than 25 years coaching football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education from Graceland University in 2004 before completing a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Educational Administration and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Throughout his coaching career, Banks worked with programs across southeastern Iowa. His stops included Centerville, Central Lee, and Fort Madison, along with seven years coaching girls basketball and additional experience in junior-high track. At Central Lee, Banks served as an assistant defensive coach and activities director before becoming the Hawks’ head football coach from 2020 through 2022. Central Lee reached the playoffs during his final season. He was also part of multiple playoff teams and a district championship during his time with the program. At Centerville, Banks spent nine years as an assistant and helped the Big Reds capture a district championship and earn multiple playoff appearances. Most recently, he coached at Fort Madison under Head Coach Derek Doherty, helping develop younger players within the Bloodhound football program. Banks’ defensive coaching journey evolved from the traditional 5-2 defense to the 3-3-5 before he found his preferred home in the 4-2-5. However, his coaching philosophy has never been limited to schemes, formations, wins, or losses. He believes the greatest responsibility of a coach is to build relationships, develop leaders, create belonging, and prepare young people for life beyond the playing field. That belief became the foundation for Coaching Culture in Athletics. What began as an effort to create meaningful conversations about coaching and leadership grew into a full sports-media and broadcasting network. Coaching Culture in Athletics now serves as the umbrella for Dog Pound Radio, The Coach Show, the Dog House Tour, Dog Pound U, Hound Talk, the Dog House Saturday Morning Blitz, live game broadcasts, team previews, rankings, interviews, historical features, and year-round coverage of local athletics. Through the Dog House Tour, Banks visits practices, meets coaching staffs, interviews athletes, studies programs, and gives local teams the type of detailed coverage normally reserved for much larger schools. The network’s reach extends throughout southeastern Iowa, western Illinois, and northeastern Missouri, connecting communities across the tri-state region.
