🐾 DOG HOUSE INSIDE TRACK: WEEK 0 REPORT 🐾

Last night, I heard from observers throughout the Dog House territory. Yes, I have eyes and ears all over the place! 😂

After gathering reports from around the Tri-State area, here is the first Dog House Inside Track of the 2026 football season.

WEST BURLINGTON–NOTRE DAME

Jayden Nanthan was an absolute DAWG last night!

According to the reports coming into the Dog House, Nanthan looked like Jerome Bettis out there. He showed quick feet, darted through openings, and then demonstrated the ability to lower his shoulder and lay the boom!

I also heard plenty of good things about the Falcons’ offensive line. That group played tough, showed some nasty hands in the trenches, and battled at the point of attack.

And that sophomore quarterback? Dashing, to say the least! He showed athleticism, confidence, and plenty of potential.

West Burlington–Notre Dame has a lot to be proud of following its scrimmage against Burlington. The Falcons appear to have some exciting young talent, and the Dog House will be keeping a close eye on this group.

CENTERVILLE BIG REDS

Centerville had its offense going last night and showed plenty of firepower throughout the game.

However, by the end of the night, the brilliant offensive mind of Garrison Carter proved to be a little too much to overcome. Carter, himself a former Centerville Big Red, had the Creston offense prepared and consistently found ways to put pressure on the Centerville defense.

There were still plenty of encouraging signs for Coach Matt Kovacevich and the Big Reds. The offense demonstrated that it can move the football and produce points.

Sometimes the greatest lessons come from the toughest nights. Centerville now has valuable film to study, corrections to make, and plenty of reasons to remain excited about the season ahead.

WEST HANCOCK TITANS

West Hancock met an Abingdon-Avon team that was every bit as strong as I expected. The Tornadoes provided the Titans with a tough early-season test and gave them plenty of valuable film to study.

Film is a good thing. It shows you what worked, what needs to be corrected, and where the greatest opportunities for improvement can be found.

Coach Coy Dorothy and his staff will break it all down, make the necessary adjustments, and have a game plan ready to go next Friday night.

There is plenty of youth on this West Hancock roster—but there is also plenty of talent, toughness, and potential. The Titans have a lot to be proud of and a strong foundation upon which to build.

BROWN COUNTY HORNETS

Brown County—from everything I heard, you were an absolute machine last night on both offense and defense!

The Hornets brought the physicality, executed offensively, and played relentless defense. It sounded like a complete team performance from a group that continues to demonstrate why it belongs among the best small-school football teams in the Tri-State area.

One name was heard loudly and often throughout the night:

Sefton made his presence felt and delivered the kind of performance that catches the attention of everyone watching.

Congratulations to Jack, Coach Tom Little, his staff, and the Brown County Hornets on an impressive night!

FORT MADISON BLOODHOUNDS

From everything I heard last night, this Fort Madison team fought—and fought hard!

The Bloodhounds showed toughness, determination, and a willingness to keep battling. Those are qualities Coach Derek Doherty and his staff can continue building upon as the season moves forward.

One name I heard repeatedly was Clifford Stewart.

According to my Inside Track reports, Stewart is going to give opposing teams plenty of problems this season. He made people take notice last night, and he is definitely a young man the Dog House will be watching closely.

Keep fighting, Bloodhounds. There is plenty to be excited about!

MOUNT PLEASANT PANTHERS

I did not have clear eyes on Mount Pleasant last night, so I am not going to speculate or report anything without having the complete picture.

It is my hope to connect with Head Coach John Bowlin later today and get his thoughts on what he saw from the Panthers—the positives, the areas needing improvement, and where the team goes from here.

Once I hear directly from Coach Bowlin, I will bring that update to the Dog House.

## Charles “Chuck” Banks ### Founder and Voice of Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network Charles “Chuck” Banks—known to many throughout the tri-state sports community as Coach Banks or “Chuck the Tank”—is the founder and lead broadcaster of the Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network. Built from more than two decades of coaching, teaching, leadership, and relationship-building, the network is dedicated to telling the stories of the coaches, athletes, schools, and communities that make local sports special. A native of rural Iowa, Banks has spent 20 years in education and more than 25 years coaching football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education from Graceland University in 2004 before completing a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Educational Administration and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Throughout his coaching career, Banks worked with programs across southeastern Iowa. His stops included Centerville, Central Lee, and Fort Madison, along with seven years coaching girls basketball and additional experience in junior-high track. At Central Lee, Banks served as an assistant defensive coach and activities director before becoming the Hawks’ head football coach from 2020 through 2022. Central Lee reached the playoffs during his final season. He was also part of multiple playoff teams and a district championship during his time with the program. At Centerville, Banks spent nine years as an assistant and helped the Big Reds capture a district championship and earn multiple playoff appearances. Most recently, he coached at Fort Madison under Head Coach Derek Doherty, helping develop younger players within the Bloodhound football program. Banks’ defensive coaching journey evolved from the traditional 5-2 defense to the 3-3-5 before he found his preferred home in the 4-2-5. However, his coaching philosophy has never been limited to schemes, formations, wins, or losses. He believes the greatest responsibility of a coach is to build relationships, develop leaders, create belonging, and prepare young people for life beyond the playing field. That belief became the foundation for Coaching Culture in Athletics. What began as an effort to create meaningful conversations about coaching and leadership grew into a full sports-media and broadcasting network. Coaching Culture in Athletics now serves as the umbrella for Dog Pound Radio, The Coach Show, the Dog House Tour, Dog Pound U, Hound Talk, the Dog House Saturday Morning Blitz, live game broadcasts, team previews, rankings, interviews, historical features, and year-round coverage of local athletics.
