Ryan Helling Named Dog House Player of the Game

MOUNT PLEASANT, IA — Business is picking up in Mount Pleasant.

The Mount Pleasant Panthers moved to 2–0 Friday night with a convincing 55–8 victory over Knoxville, turning what was an early football game into a statement performance.

Knoxville landed the first punch, putting eight points on the board in the opening quarter. Mount Pleasant answered with 14 of its own, and from there, Coach John Bowlin’s Panthers slammed the door.

The Panthers led 14–8 after one quarter, exploded for 21 points in the second, added 13 in the third, and finished with seven more in the fourth.

Final: Mount Pleasant 55, Knoxville 8.

And once Mount Pleasant got rolling, there wasn’t much Knoxville could do to slow it down.

🐕 DOG HOUSE PLAYER OF THE GAME — RYAN HELLING

Junior running back Ryan Helling gets the Dog House Player of the Game nod, and the numbers tell you exactly why.

11 carries. 148 yards. 1 touchdown.

That’s 13.5 yards every time Helling touched the football on a rushing attempt.

Helling provided the Panthers with an explosive presence in the running game and helped Mount Pleasant dominate on the ground. The Panthers piled up 242 rushing yards on only 27 attempts, averaging an impressive 9.0 yards per carry.

When you can run the football like that, everything in the playbook becomes available.

And Mount Pleasant took advantage.

🎯 WALKER SLICES AND DICES

Senior quarterback Grayson Walker continues to show why he’s one of the players the Dog House has been watching closely.

Walker completed 11 of 13 passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns.

No interceptions.

That’s an 84.6% completion rate.

Mount Pleasant’s team passing totals finished at 12-of-14 for 143 yards and three touchdowns, meaning the Panthers combined an explosive rushing attack with an incredibly efficient passing game.

That’s a difficult combination to defend.

Stack the box to stop Helling and the running game?

Walker can hurt you through the air.

Back off to defend the pass?

Mount Pleasant can pound away on the ground.

That’s balance.

💥 KADEN SCHADT MAKES HIS OPPORTUNITIES COUNT

Junior Kaden Schadt led Mount Pleasant’s receiving attack with:

3 receptions | 72 yards | 1 touchdown

That’s 24 yards per reception.

The Panthers finished with 143 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns, including a scoring reception as long as 46 yards.

Mount Pleasant didn’t need to throw it 30 or 40 times.

They simply made the throws count.

🛡️ ISAIAH LANGE LEADS A DOMINANT DEFENSIVE EFFORT

Don’t let 55 points from the offense overshadow what the Panther defense accomplished.

After Knoxville scored eight points in the opening quarter, Mount Pleasant pitched a shutout over the final three quarters.

Junior Isaiah Lange led the way with:

7 tackles | 2.5 tackles for loss | 1 sack

As a team, Mount Pleasant recorded seven tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Knoxville managed just 13 passing yards and 126 rushing yards.

The Panthers didn’t simply score.

They controlled the football game.

⚡ SPECIAL TEAMS JOINS THE PARTY

Mount Pleasant was dangerous in all three phases.

The Panthers recorded 117 kickoff-return yards on only two returns, including a massive 94-yard kickoff-return touchdown.

They added another 32 yards on two punt returns.

And when it came time to finish drives, Mount Pleasant was perfect.

7 PAT attempts.
7 PATs made.

Offense.

Defense.

Special teams.

That’s how you get to 55 points.

🐾 THE DOG HOUSE TAKE

Last week Mount Pleasant went on the road and defeated a tough Mediapolis program 23–7.

Coach Bowlin may not have walked away completely satisfied with that performance, but that’s what good football programs do — they win and then go back to work.

One week later, we may have seen some of the results of that work.

23 points in Week 1.
55 points in Week 2.
2–0 overall.
78 points scored.
15 points allowed.

The Panthers aren’t trying to win a beauty contest.

They’re winning football games.

And Friday night they showed just how dangerous this offense can become when the running game and passing game start feeding off one another.

Ryan Helling was explosive.
Grayson Walker was surgical.
Kaden Schadt made big plays.
Isaiah Lange helped set the tone defensively.

Most importantly, the guys up front gave Mount Pleasant the opportunity to do all of it.

The Dog House has been high on this Mount Pleasant team since before the season started.

Nothing we saw Friday night changed our minds.

In fact, it might have strengthened the argument.

The Panthers are 2–0.

And business is starting to pick up in Mount Pleasant.

## Charles “Chuck” Banks ### Founder and Voice of Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network Charles “Chuck” Banks—known to many throughout the tri-state sports community as Coach Banks or “Chuck the Tank”—is the founder and lead broadcaster of the Coaching Culture in Athletics Radio Broadcast Network. Built from more than two decades of coaching, teaching, leadership, and relationship-building, the network is dedicated to telling the stories of the coaches, athletes, schools, and communities that make local sports special. A native of rural Iowa, Banks has spent 20 years in education and more than 25 years coaching football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education from Graceland University in 2004 before completing a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Educational Administration and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Throughout his coaching career, Banks worked with programs across southeastern Iowa. His stops included Centerville, Central Lee, and Fort Madison, along with seven years coaching girls basketball and additional experience in junior-high track. At Central Lee, Banks served as an assistant defensive coach and activities director before becoming the Hawks’ head football coach from 2020 through 2022. Central Lee reached the playoffs during his final season. He was also part of multiple playoff teams and a district championship during his time with the program. At Centerville, Banks spent nine years as an assistant and helped the Big Reds capture a district championship and earn multiple playoff appearances. Most recently, he coached at Fort Madison under Head Coach Derek Doherty, helping develop younger players within the Bloodhound football program. Banks’ defensive coaching journey evolved from the traditional 5-2 defense to the 3-3-5 before he found his preferred home in the 4-2-5. However, his coaching philosophy has never been limited to schemes, formations, wins, or losses. He believes the greatest responsibility of a coach is to build relationships, develop leaders, create belonging, and prepare young people for life beyond the playing field. That belief became the foundation for Coaching Culture in Athletics. What began as an effort to create meaningful conversations about coaching and leadership grew into a full sports-media and broadcasting network. Coaching Culture in Athletics now serves as the umbrella for Dog Pound Radio, The Coach Show, the Dog House Tour, Dog Pound U, Hound Talk, the Dog House Saturday Morning Blitz, live game broadcasts, team previews, rankings, interviews, historical features, and year-round coverage of local athletics. Through the Dog House Tour, Banks visits practices, meets coaching staffs, interviews athletes, studies programs, and gives local teams the type of detailed coverage normally reserved for much larger schools. The network’s reach extends throughout southeastern Iowa, western Illinois, and northeastern Missouri, connecting communities across the tri-state region. Banks has covered and developed relationships with programs including Fort Madison, Central Lee, Centerville, West Burlington–Notre Dame, Mount Pleasant, Macomb, West Hancock, and Brown County. His work highlights more than star players and final scores. Faith and family remain at the center of Banks’ life. He and his wife, Stephanie, have built a life rooted in southeastern Iowa and are the proud parents of Chelsey, Peyton, and Katarina. Their growing family includes son-in-law Donald Archambault and grandchildren Orion, Owen, and Ollie. Banks often credits his family for standing beside him through the demanding seasons of coaching, education, broadcasting, illness, and recovery.
